All Hands On Deck
John 13:4-5, 12-17 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. ...
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You call me ‘Teacher' and ‘Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. (NIV)
Jesus' example is that we should do as he has done. When there's a need, take ownership of it. Serve! Serving is not just an event. It must become the culture, what we do naturally. Serving must be motivated by love, not duty. Serving is about them, not about me. When we do it this way, with our focus on the purposes of God, God's house works and it grows. Serving is a must to mature us into becoming like Jesus. It's the path of maturity.
Galatians 6:10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. (NASB)
If we have to change the service time to facilitate a third Sunday morning service - will you serve by embracing that change?
If you're on a Sunday morning team, would you stay just a little bit longer to allow for another service to happen and more lives to be changed?
Would you park off site to make room for the "new to church" and 1st time guests?
Would you go for coffee with the people you meet at church instead of staying for coffee because we need to prepare for the next service?
Will you serve? It's your ship. It's your church. It's yours!
